This time I watched “12 Angry Men”. This movie was released on August 17th, 1997. It was a remake movie which is based on the American TV drama in 1954 and the American movie in 1957. This movie has still been popular among the people all over the world and translated into various languages, not only English.
In this movie, there are twelve men in a small muggy room. One day a boy was suspected of killing his father, though there were only disadvantageous evidences or testimonies. And these twelve juries had to decide whether this boy was really guilty or not. At first, eleven men thought he was guilty of course, while only one man thought he was not guilty. This man who thought a boy was not guilty was trying to change the eleven men’s mind: “He is completely guilty. No one can doubt this fact!” with his enthusiasm and logical argument through the whole story. At the end of the story, all 12 men agreed with the same opinion: “He is not guilty”.
I was impressed by the story of course, but also the direction. This movie has only two scenes: inside the court and small room. Twelve men spent almost all their time in a small room in this movie. I strongly thought if the story is excellent, it is no matter that where it is. Simple direction is one of the best reasons which make this movie more special.
I learned some new English expressions from this movie. When I blame for someone, I can say “What kind of a man are you!” This means 「何ていう人だ」 in Japanese.
